The Eddiya Canadian Centre is a nonprofit Cultural & educational research institution. It is a unique and independent institution. The centre is an intellectual forum working on social & academic issues focusing in Arabic language and its culture .It collaborated with schools, universities and research institutes to organize workshops & seminars. The headquarter of the Centre is located in Calgary; AB. Eddiya is governed by a board of directors that meet regularly.

Mission

 

The Eddiya Canadian Centre is dedicated to the revival of Arabic language and its culture in order to help our communities in Canada to realize the power of Arabic civilization and bridge the gap between them and the main stream. The Centre‘s ultimate aim is to strengthen the dialogue between the Arab world and Western civilization, especially Canadian culture through educational programs to Support public understanding and appreciation between the two great nations. To Improve the Arabic image in Canada and introduce Canadian multiculturalistic views to the Middle East. Also to suggest a strong Arabic curriculum for public schools and universities in Canada.

Goals

 

The goal of all our programs is to build good citizens and to promote peace, multilingualism and cultural diversity in Canada. To create communities where students feel safe, valued & respected and where children are more successful in their academic achievement and personal lives .To build sincere ,dedicated and brilliant students of knowledge and active researchers, who will go on to become future leaders for their communities.

 

 

Objectives

Our objective is Arabic for all. No one left behind. Learn Arabic wherever you are & whenever you want. Understand the culture and support their issues locally and nationwide.
Our aim is to: Develop an appropriate methodology for teaching Arabic language & understanding its culture.
The Centre seeks to achieve its objectives by:

  • Promoting academic research on Arabic language and its culture.
  • Conducting courses, seminars & conferences in Arabic language and related fields.
  • Developing curriculum  & training  Arabic teachers.
  • Publication of text books.
  • Directing research and studies to develop Arabic projects and Islamic thought in general.
  • To develop academic excellence by encouraging critical thinking, problem solving, direct interaction and communications skills.
  • Developing Arabic language databank.
  • Building Calgary Arabic library & book store

Eddiya Canadian centre is a continuation of the Eddiya house for studies and publications which is located in Nouakchott, Mauritania, established in 1998. It is now an official specialized Arabic language education centre. Since opening in Calgary Canada 2011, they have organized several workshops, and taught over four hundred students (kids & adults). Most of them reach their goal in all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) due to their creative methods which makes the Arabic fun and easy to learn.

Founders

Eddiya's first founder, Mohamed Lemine Ould Mohamed Mussa, registered it as a newspaper in Mauritania in the 1990s. However after that Dr.Abdallahi Hamdy took over the company and developed it into Eddiya House for Studies and Publication in 1998. He published an academic journal for educational institutions. Later on, Dr.Abdallahi and others registered Eddiya in Canada in 2011. Dr. Abdallahi O.Hamdy is of Mauritanian origin. He got his PHD in Arabic language and Literature in 1999 from the University of Hassan two in Morocco. He has been teaching Arabic, Islamic studies and Quran for more than 20 years in Mauritania, Malaysia, USA, and Canada. Abdallahi has participated in many national and international conferences and workshops on education, Arabic language, cultural issues, interfaith, social work, and child studies throughout the globe. He speaks three languages, English, Arabic and French. He has also been involved in academic work, research and development of teaching methodology and programs. In addition to that he served as the Muslim Champlain in the Mount Royal University in Calgary (MRU), and contributed in a variety of talks. He has also written several books and articles which have been published in local, regional and international journals. Abdallahi conducted interviews about contemporary Islam with Canadian Media such as CBC and The Grande Prairie journal. He is now academic advisor for Arabic as a second language in schools and community centres in North America
